What
an amazing year 2002 was for me. Lecturing and instructing
at the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah was also the
premiere of my first book.
It was an awesome experience, as I also travelled
by car to Paducah through our beautiful countryside
with Emmie and BJ. The Quilt "We the People"
that was "mothered and worked on by my guild
was also hung for the first time for the public to
see. It was a touching experience.
Lecturing in the New Playhouse at the home where
the Nutmeg Quilters meet was great fun, they
are a wonderful guild ! If you are in their area,
I taught at a fantastic quilt shop named J.H.Homestead
Quilt Shop...do not miss this treasure!
Another evening of enjoyment was spent with the Pocono
Mountain Quilters Guild in Stroudsburg, PA and
then into the summer months were some book signing,
at Quilters Attic, Pine Bush, NY and The
Fabric Center, in Port Jervis, NY and the Moscow
County Music and Arts Festival in Moscow, PA!
If in Pinebush, go to Quilters Attic, the staff are
warm and friendly, as well as the students that were
in my class.
During the September months, I had the pleasure to
book sign and chat and give to lectures for the Country
Quilters in Pine Bush, NY. I had two great days
there and my lectures were opened with a young talented
pianist who played a bit of classic music for me...Fleur
de le
Then on a very blustery stormy, rainy
day in October, I was given the honor along with some
of my guild members, Emmie Lyle, Laura Orben, Kathy
Snyder, Gloria Grohs and Betty Rigo to present a $5,000
check in behalf of AQS from profits made of Anchor
Quilts auctioned on ebay to ARDA - American Rescue
Dog Association. These are the wonderful canine
heroes that searched the rubble and for bodies on
9/11 and any other catostrophic event that takes place
in our world. They were training and getting certified
that day at the Naval Base in Lakehurst, NJ
October gave me the chance to give a little back
to my guild,The Milford Valley Quilters Guild
by teaching them my applique method. We had a nice
relaxing workshop in the Deleware Municpal Bldg in
Dingmans Ferry, PA, where we saw the first snow flurries
of the year.
November brought me to the hills of Kutztown, PA
where I lectured for the Heart and Hand Quilt Guild.
I had a great time with the girls that night and once
again do not miss their quilt shop.Over the Bridge
it has everything!!
And as my year came to an end, I spent a bit of
time in Amsterdam, Italy and the UK.
Most of my time was devoted to teaching, demonstrating
and lecturing for Quilt Italia. I ate the most fantastic
foods and met friends for a lifetime. This trip enabled
me to see my family in the Northern part of Italy
and do some photography research in Venice. I was
blessed with my mom Gloria and Helen Umstead who accompanied
me. After a week in Italy, we jetted to the United
Kingdom where I roomed with my friend, creative partner
and keeper of my website Alison Rumble. We met up
with another friend Doris Dove who I had met while
teaching in Isatnbul, Turkey 2001 and headed by train
to Waterloo, a bit outside of London, where I lectured
for a fantastic group of British quilters. Nibbles
first, lecture and then show and tell by all.
2002 was a year to cherish!
