Lunar Lunacy to date, has been the most instrumental quilt
to the healing of my battle with endometriosis that resulted
in a total hysterectomy at the age of 38. The beginning
of this quilt started quite humbly, as a favor to my friend
Bonnie McCaffery as part of her Jewel Pierce Patterson Award
Exhibit in Houston, TX. in Creativity Design. At the same
synchronistic moments, my life was turned upside down with
an injection drug called Lupron, to put my body into a chemical
menopause. Little did I understand the effects it would
take my body and mind to. I suffered deep depressions, and
an unexplainable bout of memory loss and confusion, quite
the opposite of my personality! Hence, as you look at the
geometrics in the quilt design, that is how I had felt.....a
bit of Lunacy. Soon after, before the the quilt top was
finished, I had my hysterectomy. I finally felt at peace
with myself. The pain of the endometriosis was gone and
my body would now begin to heal, and that is where the slice
of celestial came into play on this quilt..The Lunar part.
My bit of calmness in a world of chaos. I quilted the top
during the 10 week recovery and it was juried into Sacred
Threads , an exhibit on healing quilts. Also Lunar Lunacy
was picked to represent a week in February in the Art Quilt
Calendar.
Lunar Lunacy now resides for a while on the ceiling of
7th Street Coffee in Milford, PA...a nice peaceful gathering
spot with good music, comfortable velvet couches and the
best cappuchino's and chai tea!
